Revenue Management Support
Effective January 1, 2007 payments to Medicare Advantage plans are
risk-adjusted. The risk-adjusted payments are based on the clinical
conditions of the member as reported through ICD-9 codes. A major
source of ICD-9 codes is physicians.
Matrix physicians and nurse practitioners complete comprehensive
health risk assessments (HRAs) of high-risk members. These HRAs
include a face-to-face visit at the bed-side and can be used to
support a plan’s risk-adjusted payments.
Results of the HRAs can also be used to improve care. The
assessments help to identify candidates for follow-on disease and
case management interventions, and are also shared with the member’s
primary care physician to address any required follow-up. |
